In this episode, our Co-founder Mark Young introduced us to industry expert Jennifer Hamilton Macaulay, she has been a Managing Member of BHJ, LLC since 2000.

BHJ, LLC is an insurance-licensed broker/consultant that has focused exclusively in the Private Placement Variable Life (PPLI)/Private Placement Variable Annuity (PPVA) space since 1992. BHJ’s primary clients over the years have been single and multi-family offices, asset management firms that cater to high-net-worth individuals, wealth management practices of large private banks and the Insurance Carriers that administer and manufacture these structures.

BHJ did their first PPLI structure in 1994 and to date has completed several hundred structures in the PPLI/PPVA marketplace. Jennifer is actively involved in all aspects of the Private Placement Insurance structures marketplace.

Private Placement Life Insurance (PPLI), is an established and internationally recognized tool for wealth preservation and transfer. It consists of a policyholder owning the policy and one or more lives assured together with appointed beneficiaries, who will receive the proceeds from the policy upon death of the last surviving life assured. Compared to the very popular Universal Life insurance solution, PPLI provides different benefits as it can be truly tailored to suit the unique needs of individuals and their families, with the potential to enhance financial planning and wealth portability. PPLI also allows for investments in a broad and diversified range of asset classes to build diversified portfolios. It is a highly efficient tool for ultra-high net worth families to protect, preserve and pass on their wealth to the next generations.

Nadia started her career at Goldman Sachs Asia's Hong Kong office, covering 14 Asia Ex Japan markets. She was transferred to Tokyo to support the highest trading volume in Goldman Sachs Japan history after the 2011 earthquake. She led the Latin America trading desk migration project in Sao Paulo in 2013. She then joined Goldman Sachs Asset Management in New York as a Business Unit Manager in their TPD (Third Party Distribution) team, where she was responsible for developing sales strategy for RIA, Bank and ICG channels for the firm's mutual fund business.

Nadia works closely with family offices and high-net-worth individuals on asset allocation across multiple asset classes (from fund of funds to direct deals). Nadia’s vast network of Asian family offices with capital to deploy in the US has brought Bridge Point Capital to a unique position to educate, engage, and implement strategies for clients. She graduated from New York University’s Stern School of Business with an MBA with a concentration on Finance and Strategy.

Previously, she was part of the inaugural team of Atlas Mara, a London Stock Exchange-listed financial services investment platform and the first SPAC for Africa raising over $1bn of institutional capital to invest in banks across 7 countries, co-founded by Bob Diamond, ex-CEO of Barclays Bank.

Barbara held board and corporate oversight roles for several banks including the Development Bank of Rwanda. Prior to Atlas Mara, Barbara worked on global transactions of over $15bn at various financial institutions, including as Vice President, Investment Banking at JPMorgan, and UBS Investment Bank in New York. Her notable deals include the IPOs of Aptiv PLC (formerly Delphi Automative) - largest auto supplier in the world, and Nord Anglia Education. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Columbia University, and an MBA at Harvard Business School.
